Big changes to #orca #screenreader vis vis #firefox Time to pull again and rebuild Master? #a11y I'm concerned that many of these look like per-website fixes/work-arounds. An accumulation of these will make orca's gecko support an unwieldy mess; is this really the best practice? Maybe it's time to blame web authors for making these ad hok things necessary? -

You may notice that I have been posting a lot less here recently, well except for the automated stuff. I guess I'll have to start using gasher and elinks a lot more. It seems like every time I try to do anything with #orca these days it freezes up, or just plain doesn't read. I'm not sure what's gone wrong with it. I've tried installing from git and it just seems to get worse and worse. Maybe it's time for an alternative to orca. Perhaps we should createJormungandr , the brother of #Fenrir as an X screen reader. -

#ubuntu #mate 3.18 is now installed on the #thinkpad and working well, now that I've removed two troublesome applications from startup-- Ubuntu welcome and Dejadup Monitor. The maintainers have fixed lightdm; now, it talks when #orca #screenreader is toggled with 'alt+mod4+s'. I find the Software Boutique utility completely inaccessible. Using #apt is fine, but I wanted to check. For gui browsing of the collection, there's always synaptic, which does not come with the distro, but can be installed. -

One problem with them is, they aren't usually very accessible with #Orca. Ratpoison by default is no different, but I was able to reassign the keybindings to zenity scripts that do the same things, so they now work just fine with Orca. So I get all the benefits of a small, lightning fast window manager, and can read pretty much everything on it too. Only things I can't make work so far are lastmsg, and echo. But, for echo, just don't use it lol. the lastmsg thing may be a bit more useful if I can get it readable though. -

Ok, so #Twitter changes their "favorite" symble to a heart. We've always had a heart here at #gnusocial, at least according to what #Orca tells me. But after watching a video where a journalist brought up an interesting point, maybe sometimes things are important and need to be marked as such, but isn't something you'd necessarily put a heart on, the example was some lady being stoned to death in one of those middle eastern countries. So, maybe our favorite button should open a menu you different options, heart="I like this", star+"This is important", and maybe a skull="THIS IS AWESOME! and skulls are cool." Anyway, just a thought...
